June 19, 2025 | DepEd Secretary Juan Edgardo โSonnyโ Angara led the turnover ceremony of a two-storey Alternative Learning System (ALS) Community Learning Center (CLC) at the Buenavista Central Elementary School Grounds.
Mayor Joselito T. Roble expressed his gratitude to the Department of Education, headed by Secretary Juan Edgardo โSonnyโ Angara, for granting Buenavista its first-ever ALS school building. He also shared that the funding for the project, amounting to โฑ13,319,671.72, came from the Department of Education. The facility includes a roof deck with a rainwater collector, perimeter fence, furniture, and a solar PV energy system. Mayor Roble assured that the LGU of Buenavista remains fully committed to providing accessible learning opportunitiesโespecially for those left behind by the traditional education system.
Mr. Akihiro Fushimi, Chief of Education of UNICEF, expressed strong support for the ALS program. โThis initiative empowers and creates employment opportunities for citizens,โ he said. He also announced the donation of laptops with ICT systems, a printer, and a television. โThis is the key to unlocking opportunities in the future,โ he added.
Congressman Dale B. Corvera expressed his heartfelt gratitude to DepEd for selecting the Province of Agusan del Norteโespecially the Municipality of Buenavistaโas the first to have an ALS school building. โALS will help our out-of-school youth complete their basic education,โ he said, assuring DepEd that โAgusan del Norte is just one call away.โ
Secretary Angara also expressed his appreciation to President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. for his continuous support of the Department of Education. โBecause of this, many lives that were once lost are now finding direction again,โ he remarked. Sec. Angara said he was honored to witness the turnover of one of the first-ever ALS Community Learning Centers in the Philippines, as well as the first electrified DepEd project of 2025 held in Caragaโespecially in Agusan del Norte.
